The Traitors viewers were left distraught in Wednesday’s episode after fan favourite Diane drank from the poisoned chalice.
Fans of the hit BBC show had an agonising five-day wait to discover if Diane had been ‘murdered’ by Traitors Paul, Harry and Miles after she was handed the dreaded chalice.
The Traitors had selected Diane as their target, but her lips had to touch the selected chalice for her to be ‘killed’, with Friday’s episode left on a tense cliffhanger as fans remained hopeful that she would refuse to drink from the cup and stay in the game.
However, on Wednesday, fans were left devastated as the retired teacher, 63, was shown taking a sip from the chalice in the opening moments of the episode, sealing her fate.
Viewers took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their upset that Diane had been struck down by the Traitors, posting gifs featuring people crying and storming off.

Fans of the hit BBC show had an agonising five-day wait to discover if Diane had been ‘murdered’ by Traitors Paul, Harry and Miles after she was handed the dreaded chalice
However, a huge twist meant that Diane still turned up for breakfast the next morning, as host Claudia Winkleman revealed she wouldn’t be killed straight away.
She confirmed: ‘What the Traitors don’t know is the poison doesn’t work with immediate effect, breakfast tomorrow is going to be very interesting.’
The Traitors then had quite a shock as they turned up the next morning and saw Diane sitting around the breakfast table, despite thinking they had murdered her.
Speaking to camera, Miles said: ‘When I saw Diane sitting there, I thought, “aren’t you dead?”‘
While Harry said: ‘Diane is still sat there, did we murder the wrong person?’ and Paul added: ‘Massive shock, Diane is just sitting there, I did not expect that!’
Claudia then shared: ‘Yesterday, one of you was poisoned. Whilst their target is alive and well, sitting here now, by the end of today’s mission, they will be dead.
‘Think of today as a slow march to certain death. Please dress appropriately to pay your final respects.’
Theories quickly circulated about how the Faithfuls could have been poisoned, with Diane immediately sharing her suspicions.

However, a huge twist meant that Diane still turned up for breakfast the next morning, as host Claudia Winkleman revealed she wouldn’t be killed straight away
She said: ‘I got kissed by somebody yesterday, and I thought that was weird.’
Diane then quizzed Miles – who is a Traitor and condemned her with the poisoned chalice – asking him: ‘You gave me a glass of sparkling rose.’
However, he defended himself as he said: ‘I just didn’t want the fizzy rose.’
Believing him, Diane added to camera: ‘Evie and Miles both gave me a drink last night, I completely trust them, I would be quite upset if I found out they are Traitors.’
The contestants then had to attend a funeral where they had to work out who had been murdered by the Traitors, before Diane was evicted from the show at the end of the challenge.
After answering a series of questions, they narrowed it down to Diane, Paul and Evie who might have been murdered, with the trio then having to climb into coffins.
The group then correctly guessed that Diane had been murdered by the Traitors, with her being shut into a coffin by Claudia, marking her elimination from the show.

Upon her exit, Ross – who was revealed to viewers to be her son in real-life – was left completely devastated by her ‘murder’ and admitted it was morbid to be attending her ‘funeral’.
Fuming over her mother’s elimination from the competition, Ross vowed to find the Traitors as he said: ‘Revenge is going to be taken.’
Despite her exit, he insisted he didn’t intend to tell his fellow contestants about their family connection, after they had kept quiet that they were mother and son.
After her exit, Diane said: ‘I’m OK with it being me, it would have been way worse if it had been Ross. The Traitors are getting rid of people who could have carried the Faithfuls forward, they’re playing a blinding game.’
