The board would be willing to completely renew the squad.
Stephen Curry has had enough. Consecutive humiliating losses to the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans, in addition to a 2-6 record in the last two weeks, filled the plate for the Golden State Warriors’ star, who is demanding drastic changes from the team.
At 35 years old and with 14 years as a professional, all with Golden State,Curry is aware that he is in one of his last opportunities to achieve an NBA championship. However, the team’s current performance does not help in the pursuit of this goal.
This bad streak has the team mired in 12th place in the Western Conference, very far from the postseason spots. With less than a month until the All-Star break, the clock is ticking for Curry and the Warriors.
Faced with this scenario, frustration finally took its toll on the Davidson University product, and he asked the team management to take action on the matter. In other words, the jobs of all of his colleagues are at risk.
Curry’s demands
The 141-105 loss to the Pelicans hit Curry hard, and he had to side with the fans who booed the team at his home, the Chase Center, on Wednesday night.
“Honestly, I’m booing myself. Booing our team in my head because of the way we’re playing, so it is what it is… It’s our job to give them something to cheer about, and we have not done that,” admitted the Golden State’s star guard.
In his usual measured tone, Curry made it perfectly clear that a change of course must be made. “We have a standard that’s pretty evident that if things stay the same, that’s the definition of insanity, right? Keep doing the same thing, expecting a different result,” he declared at a press conference.
Although he did not say it as such, pundits explain that Curry is asking the board to begin working to renew the roster before the February 8 deadline.
Whatever Steph wants
Although the board has not made an official statement following the star’s statements, The Athletic insider, Shams Charania, assured that the feeling on the board is that anyone who is not Curry is at risk of leaving.
According to Charania, no one would be safe. First in line, according to analysts, could be Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, and with Curry looking for a championship ring now, rookies Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis could be replaced by proven players who can carry the team to the final series.
In this scenario, there are those who consider that not even Klay Thompson and Draymond Green would be safe. Even head coach Steve Kerr’s job would be on the line for the next offseason if the results are not what the team is looking for.
It’s not common to see Curry in “superstar” mode, but his team’s losing streak and the clock ringing in his ear have led him to invoke the power of his status, and apparently, the board has heard it.
