During a recent luxurious vacation, Kylie and Kendall Jenner rented the stunning Marigold Villa, named Sol de Oriente, in the secluded oceanfront resort community of Costa Careyes along Mexico’s Pacific Coast. The vibrant villa, perched on a cliff with breathtaking views of the ocean, came with a hefty price tag of at least $6,500 per night.
The Jenner sisters delighted their Instagram followers with carefully curated photos showcasing the villa’s impressive architecture and exclusive location. Now, this exquisite property is available for purchase at a price of $15 million.
Costa Careyes was founded in 1968 by Gian Franco Brignone, an Italian artist, financier, and real estate developer. Brignone envisioned a luxurious hideaway where artists, celebrities, and affluent individuals could find inspiration and relaxation. Despite the absence of connecting roads to nearby towns, he acquired 20,000 acres of land and an eight-mile stretch of coastline. Over the years, innovative architects were enlisted to design unique homes with vibrant colors, reminiscent of the Mediterranean but featuring palapa-style roofs.
In contrast to bustling Cancún and less accessible than Tulum, Costa Careyes offers a tranquil retreat. It encompasses around 100 residences, including a boutique beachfront hotel with several dozen five-star accommodations. The enclave has attracted renowned celebrities such as Tom Ford, Robert De Niro, Mick Jagger, and Uma Thurman, who value its privacy. The secluded resort boasts numerous eccentric artworks and installations. Additionally, every November, Careyes hosts Ondalinda, an ultra-luxury festival that combines art, spirituality, and wellness.
Sol de Oriente, completed in 1999, was designed by French architect Jean-Claude Galibert in collaboration with Brignone. The main villa, known as The Castle, features a star-shaped design, a three-tiered palapa, and an infinity-edge pool. It offers three deluxe bedroom suites and expansive open-air living spaces that lead to terraces and the pool. Two ocean-view casitas and a two-story structure with additional bedrooms provide comfortable accommodations. Accessory villas are connected to The Castle via a staircase or funicular. Staff housing is located separately.
Adjacent to Sol de Oriente, across the crescent-shaped Playa Careyitos, lies Sol de Occidente, a pale-green villa that adds to the uniqueness of the area.
Earlier this year, Gian Franco Brignone passed away at the age of 96, leaving his family and successors to continue managing and fulfilling his vision for Careyes. Sol de Oriente is now owned by Brignone’s son, Filippo Brignone, and is available for purchase through Carolwood Estates, preserving the legacy of this extraordinary property.
