YOU know it’s Christmas when Kate Middleton breaks out her festive reds and tartan looks.

It turns out the Princess of Wales has a secret rule she always follows with her yuletide fashion – and she broke it this year to send a strong message.

According to fashion expert Amber Graafland, the royal mum-of-three always sticks to wearing red and green ensembles, which are traditionally festive colours.

Speaking to Fabulous, she said: “From December 1 onwards head-to-toe green and red are the Princess’s go-to looks; last year’s khaki Christmas Day outfit being the perfect case in point.

“A triumph of quintessential Britishness, her festive wardrobe is a winning combination of traditional hues and carefully chosen heritage prints.

“From glamorous gowns and timely tiaras at palace receptions to cosy turtleneck sweaters for decorating the tree, she simply doesn’t put a foot wrong.”

However, Kate has broken her own fashion rule this Christmas, by ditching her colour go-tos to wear white – and this could be to send a “resounding message.”

At her Royal Carols: Together At Christmas, we saw the Princess of Wales looking angelic wearing a white Self Portrait jacket with a pearl trim and sequin embellishments.

Amber claimed: “It’s very much farewell to the tweeds, Barbour jackets, country life and patent shoes for Princess Kate, and ushering in a new laid back look.

“Cool, confident, self assured, she’s leaving the past behind and telling the nation, we are the royal family for the 21st century.

“The princess’s deployment of angelic white could of course convey a much deeper meaning.

“White symbolises purity, innocence, and neutrality. It also represents new beginnings, and a clean slate, helping us through times of stress and allowing us to put the past behind us, and preparing to move on.

“In the aftermath of the Omid Scobie name drop scandal, could this mark the beginning of a significant new era for Kate?”

Kate was also wearing white in the festive teaser clip for the service, which came in the wake of royal author Omid Scobie’s bombshell Endgame book.

Early Dutch copies of Scobie’s poison-filled Endgame suggested Kate and Charles were the two Royals who had made remarks about the skin colour of Harry and Meghan’s first child, Archie.

The pair were allegedly accused by Meghan in a letter to King.

In the English versions, Scobie says UK laws prevent him from naming names.

The Together at Christmas service, hosted by Kate, is due to air on Christmas Eve on ITV.
