If LeBron James will soon no longer be there to embody the face of the league, there is no shortage of candidates for his succession. One of them is named Luka Doncic and has truly taken the NBA by storm since his draft. Champion with the King in the past, a veteran of the Mavs went free on No. 77.

Jazz 100-103 Mavericks: Luka Doncic is already better than Michael Jordan, a stat he'll be on top of forever | Marca

Who will be regular season MVP this year? If the last campaign had seen Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokoumpo and Nikola Jokic racing in the lead, 2023-24 appears a little more indecisive. If the Cameroonian is in great shape and is a natural favorite for his own succession, he is not the only one working at full speed. We are particularly thinking of Luka Doncic, on the Mavericks side.

With almost 33 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists on average, the Slovenian leads a Texan squad which is in 3rd position in the West. By maintaining this level of play, El Matador will naturally be a candidate for the Michael Jordan Trophy at the end of the season. It would only be justice for Markieff Morris, champion in 2020 with LeBron James Lakers and who now plays in Dallas:

Markieff Morris amazed by the talent of Luka Doncic

Man, I’ve played with so many great players, but this game is so easy for him. I have never seen someone who is borderline walking throughout the entire match. He plays the same way in training. This is his special talent.

Yeah I don’t understand why he’s not #1 in the MVP race. I simply don’t understand. Because he carries our team every night in points, rebounds and assists.

Not the most athletic or the most explosive, No. 77 relies almost entirely on his basketball IQ and his knowledge of the game which are well above average. Paradoxically, the American media refuse to move him up in the MVP rankings, as Morris dryly points out. For some fans who share his opinion, this unfortunately risks repeating itself in the future:

I tell you all, Luka will not win an MVP even if he finished a season with a triple-double with an average of 40 points.😭🤣

Markieff Morris has played with LeBron James, Anthony Davis and even Jimmy Butler in the past but he easily admits: he had never played with a phenomenon like Luka Doncic. IF El Matador wants to follow in the footsteps of the King who was his youth idol, however, he will have to start winning titles.
