As these Gears accumulate over time, the young pirate gains more power to defeat some of the most formidable foes both on land and at sea.

Since the revelation of Gear 5, Luffy’s strongest transformation yet, fans have been wondering whether Gear 5 is the final power-up that Luffy will get in the series, or whether he will even surpass Gear 5 to unlock an entirely different realm of power overall. Several characters in One Piece can acquire incredible abilities that most people could only imagine thanks to the power system.

When it comes to Luffy, his power-ups come in a variety of forms that are typically categorized by Gears. These Gears build up over time, giving the young pirate more abilities to take on some of the most formidable enemies both on land and at sea.

All of Luffy’s Gear forms, most of which he still employs frequently, are among the many forms that he has acquired over the years that change his body and let him fight a wide range of opponents. In terms of combat powers, the gears can be categorized from strongest to the least strongest.

1. Gear 4 Bounceman

Luffy’s preferred form in Gear 4 is Bounceman, which appears to have the highest raw strength of all the forms. Luffy covers his entire body with Haki and inflates his muscles by blowing into his arm. Luffy can deliver powerful blows that cause damage to an opponent and change the direction of his attacks by drawing his arms and legs back inside of himself.

The majority of attacks miss him because of his increased defense. Launched at the end of Luffy’s battle with Donquixote Doflamingo, the Gear 4 Bounce-Man technique was the first of the Gear 4 arsenal to be introduced in One Piece.

2. Gear 4 Snakeman

To maintain his body as slender as possible and maximize his speed, Luffy uses his Armament Haki on his limbs in Gear 4 form. With less defensive ability than the other two forms, Snakeman is smaller and more offensive. Luffy gets a massive attack speed boost and can often change the direction of his blows to hit his opponents from all angles.

Additionally, Luffy can quickly change the direction of his attacks by using the Python mode on the form. Possibly Luffy’s fastest form, he outran Charlotte Katakuri and defeated him just in the nick of time with his Snakeman appearance.

3. Gear 4 Tankman

Tankman gives Luffy enormous size and improves his defenses, enabling him to use the recoil from blows to blast opponents away and use his body as a weapon. Gear 4: Tankman shows off his formidable defensive prowess right away when it faces Charlotte Cracker in the Whole Cake Island Arc. Tankman represents Luffy’s first level of Gear 4 form in terms of powers.

Like Gear 3, Luffy stretches his muscles instead of his bones, which weakens his durability but increases his superhuman strength. When an enemy strikes Luffy, his body reacts by bouncing back, pushing them away with his springy physique.

4. Gear 3

By forcing air into his thumb and significantly inflating his body’s bones, Luffy uses the Gear 3 technique to grow larger and more towering than usual. These inflated body parts can cause enormous amounts of damage; they can easily demolish big buildings and steel doors. But as Luffy grows larger, his mobility decreases, making him a more vulnerable target.

When Gear 3 was first used, Luffy would shrink down to the size of a child, which would temporarily impair his fighting abilities until his body returned to normal. But following Luffy’s two years of training, this no longer occurs.

The first appearance of Gear 2 was on Enies Lobby. Luffy speeds up his blood flow, and his body can handle the pressure because his organs and blood vessels are rubbery. Over time, Luffy gradually learns how to attain this state with minimal effort, but initially, the form is so intense that all of his sweat seems to be steaming out of his body.

Luffy’s physical prowess is significantly enhanced by Gear 2, making him stronger and faster. When Luffy combines Haki and Gear 2, he can punch opponents so quickly and forcefully that his fist bursts into flames, a move he refers to as Red Hawk.
