One Piece Live Action craze is still pretty much up top. Even after almost three months, it is still the talking point of the fans. It is a rare incident to see an anime live adaptation break the shackles of the continuous flops and deliver something that the fans can enjoy.
Apart from that, the original One Piece anime is one of the most popular anime, and generally, the live-action had several expectations, which it fulfilled to its core.
There were a few major changes that the showrunners made to the original story, but it paid off. One of the major changes that took place was based on Monkey D. Garp. The live adaptation showed that he was present during Gol D. Roger’s execution, while in the anime, he was not around.
Garp’s Introduction Was A Gamble For The Showrunners
Vincent Regan as Monkey D. Garp
Monkey D. Garp is one of the important characters in One Piece Live Action. As a result, the role was given to Vincent Regan, who did it flawlessly. But there was a moment where the showrunners might have gambled with the character a little too much.
During Gol. D Roger’s execution, the public was creating a ruckus. As a means of controlling them, Garp was seen to give a serious speech, which helped in calming down the public.

It was one of the major changes in One Piece Live Action considering that Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger were lifelong rivals, and the former was not present at the latter’s execution in the anime. It was a huge risk for Netflix because it could have potentially ruined the show. Moreover, it was the first episode.

Apart from that, Garp is somewhat goofy for most of the story, with only a few moments that he is dead serious about his job. His speech may have been a surprise for most, but it was an important step for the live-action to build its identity and not be a rip-off of the original plot. There were changes made to his ship, with the dog face missing and he was always on Luffy’s tail.
