The father-son dynamic between Luffy and Dragon is quite similar to that between Toji and Megumi, where both fathers love their children but don’t want to harm them.

Toji loved Megumi, but after the death of his wife, he decided to stay distant from Megumi as people could use him against him.

When Toji was reincarnated in Shibuya, he fought fiercely until he realized he was fighting his son and decided to kill himself after finding out that his son grew up in a good environment.

Their relationship parallels that of Luffy and Monkey D. Dragon, where neither of them doesn’t openly talk about the other but has profound love between them.

In the One Piece series, conversations between Luffy and his father are almost nonexistent, which leads many fans to believe that maybe Dragon does not care about his child.

The latest spoilers for One Piece revealed a flashback in which Kuma spoke with Dragon about their missions to the Goa Kingdom.

Dragon responds by saying that a child is a parent’s biggest weakness, depicting his love for his son and his desire not to harm him.

Monkey D. Dragon has always been a huge supporter of Luffy

Despite not putting it into clear words, Dragon has always been the type to show love for his son by helping him in crucial times.

During the Loguetown arc, Luffy is surrounded by enemies and is about to get caught by Captain Smoker until his father arrives.

Dragon destroyed every enemy and ensured Luffy escaped; however, he did not utter a single word to his son.
