Acclaimed actor Josh Brolin couldn’t secure the role of Batman in Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and it was ultimately given to Ben Affleck who received immense backlash and negative comments from viewers after watching him in Daredevil.

Despite losing the role, Brolin did not hold any grudge against the actor but was quite disappointed in how people responded to Affleck’s involvement in the project.

Josh Brolin Defended Ben Affleck Even After Losing on Batman Role

Josh Brolin who is ironically known as Thanos would have never got this bigger role if he had secured Batman in the DC universe. Thanks to Ben Affleck who was successfully cast alongside Henry Cavill in Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. When it was announced that Affleck would be the caped crusader alongside Cavill’s Superman, fans were quick to judge Ben Affleck as they didn’t find the actor’s role in Daredevil appealing enough. While talking about the backlash that the Argo star received, Josh Brolin, told MTV News (via Comic Book Movie) that:
“Ben’s got so much flak from this, I actually got angry for him, not at him. Everyone else is angry at him! I’m really curious to see what he does and what Zack does. I’ll see the movie. I’ll be a fan to see whatever version they’re going to do. But how do you bring up a movie that Ben did 10 or 15 years ago and…I mean, c’mon, the guy has grown and matured, and just look at the work he’s doing now. I’m going to defend him literally until death.”

However, the Studio and Affleck were already aware of the backlash that came with his previous role, and the makers even showed him negative comments to mentally prepare him to take on the role of Batman. As a result, The Way Back star slayed the role and his contribution to the movie became one of the reasons why Batman Vs Superman was well-received.

It might be difficult for many actors to process rejection positively especially how Josh Brolin expressed his gladness over losing a role in Zack Snyder’s movie despite being excited to play an older and wiser Batman. While talking about this on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin mentioned:
“It would have been the older, more raspy, for lack of a better word,” Brolin said. “Honestly, that would have been a fun deal, and maybe I’ll do it when I’m 80…I’m really glad it didn’t happen,” Brolin said. “I haven’t thought twice about it.”
The Marvel star explained that even though the project involved risk and playing Batman is not an easy task, he felt happy that the role did not fall under his name but Ben Affleck’s, who was finally lauded for playing Btaman after all the criticism he previously received.

Fans were thrilled after witnessing the visuals, and action sequences and not to forget the acting skills of the cast involved.
