Sam Thompson has recalled the sweet moment he held hands with co-star Tony Bellew on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! branding it one of the ‘best moments’ of his life

Sam Thompson has opened up about his time in the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! jungle and his close bond with former boxer Tony Bellew on the ITV show.

The ex-Made in Chelsea star, 31, appeared on This Morning on Monday, 18 December, where he was interviewed by hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle after being crowned King of the Jungle.

Sam spoke highly of his time on I’m A Celebrity and revealed one of the “best moments” he had in the jungle, which unsurprisingly involved Tony, 41, and took place during the much-loved Celebrity Cyclone trial towards the end of the series.

“This sounds soft but whatever. There was a moment when we were spinning round on that little wheel about to go down onto the Cyclone and I was just so happy, and I was with friends, like actual friends for life, and seeing people do this thing,” Sam recalled.

He then added: “I held Tony Bellew’s hand whilst Josie was struggling to get up the thing! And we were just creasing, it was one of the best moments of my life. I’ll never forget it.”

Sam revealed he’s been exchanging voice notes with Tony outside of the jungle and was later photographed leaving the ITV studios with a cushion featuring a photograph of Tony, presumably a gift from the This Morning team.

Elsewhere on Monday’s show, Sam spoke about his emotional reunion with girlfriend Zara McDermott after she was unable to jet to Australia to support him due to work commitments, including Strictly Come Dancing.

Zara, 27, made sure she was there to greet her boyfriend at Heathrow Airport when he arrived back in the UK however, arriving with numerous balloons to welcome him. Sam revealed it was a complete surprise to find Zara waiting for him when got off the plane, as he thought she was too busy with work to be able to come and meet him.

“I didn’t even think she was going to be there. Because she had all these Strictly rehearsals and they were doing the Christmas special. I genuinely thought I was going to do a backdoor exit, get in a cab, go home and turn the playstation on and she was there with balloons and everything at the airport,” he told Josie and Craig.

Sam, who has been dating Zara for over four years, went on to sweetly add: “It was one of the most amazing moments, I was so, so grateful. I wake up most moments thinking how lucky I am but in that one moment, I was like, ‘Wow, that is the sweetest thing. I think she might have got into a bit of trouble from her show turning up.”
