‘Eye Hawk’ Mihawk made a long-lasting impression in One Piece Live Action.
One Piece Live Action’s resounding success has led to the possibility of multiple projects in the future. Netflix, which specializes in spin-offs, can explore certain character arcs that have rarely been touched upon by the 1400+ Chapters in the One Piece manga.
Dracule Mihawk was arguably the best anime character adaptation in One Piece Live Action. While Steven Ward recreated the character’s hawk-like focus and stoicism, the costume designers and make-up artists did a magnificent job of bringing Eye-Hawk’s appearance to life. Impressed fans flooded the internet following the release of Episode 5.

One Piece Live-action showrunner, Matt Owens, has also been impressed by Mihawk’s character in the live-action, terming it to be a favorite alongside Taz Skylar’s portrayal of Sanji. He is even planning to do a spinoff on a Young Mihawk to depict his rise as a master swordsman. As revealed during a Reddit Question & Answer session on October 6, 2023:
“I would love for that to be the case! [spinoffs on One Piece characters]. There are so many stories we have yet to dive into fully. I’d love to do a young Mihawk series. Seeing his rise through the world, interacting with other prominent figures from the past.”
Fans are now musing over whether the Dracule Mihawk spin-off will be Rated-R or if Steven Ward will reprise his role in such a series. Ward played the younger version of the character in One Piece Live Action. The camera focused on him briefly during Gol D. Roger’s execution, which was also witnessed by a young Shanks, Buggy, and Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp.

Who is Dracule Mihawk in One Piece?
Nicknamed ‘Eye Hawk’, Dracule Mihawk is one of the strongest and most influential characters in the One Piece universe. He is the only obstacle that lies in Roronoa Zoro’s path to becoming the ‘greatest swordsman ever.’ Not only did Mihawk give Zoro his first ‘L’ in the manga but also trained him during the time skip to be the Demon swordmaster that he is known as today.
A part of the original Seven Warlords of the Sea, Mihawk instantly made an impression with his abilities during his appearance in Episode 23 of the One Piece anime. Eye Hawk destroyed Don Krieg’s fleet without much effort, even cutting a ship in half with a powerful compressed air slash.
The moment came after he had defeated Zoro’s Three-Sword Style with a mere dagger – Kogatana.

Mihawk helps in power scaling Zoro’s abilities. He is considered to be on par with Red-Haired Shanks, a Yonko who is feared for his Killer Observation Haki and mastery over Conqueror’s Haki. Eye Hawk has defeated Vista, Das Bonez, and on multiple occasions, Buggy, to highlight his supreme level Armament Haki and swordsmanship skills.
Zoro’s crushing defeat against Mihawk was a shock to many fans. That being said, the green-haired swordsman has come a long way in his journey to become the best swordsman. Their next fight is expected to pan out soon now that the series is heading towards an ending.
