Kendall Jenner wore a single strand of string at the Met Gala

Kendall Jenner may have had a rough April, what with the Pepsi ad campaign misfire and that disaster called Fyre Festival. But all of that was forgotten the moment she stepped out on the red carpet at the Met Gala in New York.

Jenner wore nothing but a thong under what seemed like a sheer dress. Kendall’s outfit was designed by La Perla, the lingerie-turned-ready-to-wear brand of which the model is a brand ambᴀssador. So, was it a dress or was Kendall Jenner wearing lingerie on the Met Gala red carpet?

Turns out that Kendall Jenner’s Met Gala outfit was probably neither, or both, depending on who you ask. Because it was essentially just one single strand of string. The La Perla creative director, Julia Haart explained to the folks over at Elle that the design was basically “a very strong, very flexible, incredibly thin piece of nylon”.

On that lucky piece of nylon were 85,000 hand-painted crystals that took 160 hours of stringing and sтιтching by a team of artisans across five cities: New York, Los Angeles, Rome, Bologna and Milan. The result was this barely there back-lace, one-piece number that was teamed with a pair of mesh Louboutin pumps… and nothing else.

No celeb had worse April than Kendall Jenner so we imagine the string with its 85,000 crystals offered her some welcome relief, the kind that no soft drink or music festival could ever give.
