The latest guess isn’t the only fan theory about the identity of the popular breakfast food

THE Masked Singer fans are convinced Dippy Egg is a huge TV star after working out FOUR big clues.

Viewers of the ITV hit watched new character Dippy Egg perform Daydream Believer by The Monkees when the show returned for series five on Saturday night.

Now one fan on reddit believes that the mystery person behind the mask is none other than Inside No. 9 star Reece Shearsmith.

And here are the clues that helped them come to this conclusion.

Hare-brained idea

One of the clues in the VT that aired before Dippy Egg’s performance was that the person behind the mask ‘”works with animals”.

The fan thinks this could be a nod to the infamous hare that appears in all episodes of Shearsmith’s quirky anthology series, Inside No.9, which he created with Steve Pemberton.

In each instalment of the BBC2 show, a statuette of a hare is hidden in a random place.

“It’s just fun, there’s no real thing behind it,” Pemberton has said of the running gag.

York it out

Dippy Egg sports a Yorkshire accent when he talks – which fans think could be a reference to Reece, who is from Kingston Upon Hull in the northern county.

Reece has also done a Yorkshire accent in several of his roles.

Reece’s co-star Steve, meanwhile, is from Blackburn but did a Yorkshire accent in the series four episode, Bernie Clifton’s Dressing Room.

Drop the mic

In the VT, Dippy Egg is seen holding a mic which happens to be unplugged.

“It’s unplugged!” pointed out judge Jonathan Ross, suggesting this is a significant clue.

While Jonathan guessed this might mean the star is an “acoustic artist” in real life, fans think otherwise.

Instead, they believe the unplugged mic is a hint towards the silent episode of Inside No.9.

A Quiet Night In, from 2014, features almost no dialogue and was submitted for consideration for a BAFTA.

All in the dates

The final clue is that Reece started filming the ninth and final series of Inside No.9 on December 27th last year.

This means he would have been free to record The Masked Singer, which typically films in late summer.

While some fans believe the ITV show airs live each Saturday night, it actually records months in advance.

Of course, Reece isn’t the only star that fans think could be behind the egg-shaped mask.

Some think that soap star Kevin Fletcher is the crazy character.

Many took to X to share their thoughts.

One wrote: “#dippyegg is kelvin fletcher #maskedsinger.”

Meanwhile Dionne Warwick. 85, was the first to be voted off the show after she was revealed as Weather.

Dionne is a five-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist.

After leaving the show, Dionne admitted: “They said I’d be here for this many weeks, and I said, ‘No I’m not. I can’t disguise my voice. The minute I open my mouth, I’m gone!’

“I have never been able to disguise my voice.

“That’s been my blessing and I never want to disguise it.

“So, the minute I opened my mouth, everybody sussed it out.”
