When it comes to live-action adaptations of anime, fans of the medium have been hurt more times than they can count. Netflix stands out as a studio that has consistently produced mid-level adaptations of some of the most iconic anime, causing fans to be sceptical of the treatment that it lays out for an anime property.

However, with One Piece, the infamous anime curse was broken. Not only did the show have Eichiro Oda involved in its production, but it also nurtured a cast that was as in love with the source material as fans, yielding a fantastic product. Among the now-beloved cast was Emily Rudd, the actress who essayed the role of the Straw Hats’s navigator, Nami. Netflix seems to have taken a shine to the actress, given that she is returning for the streaming giant in another anime.

Emily Rudd returns in Netflix’s Delicious in Dungeon‘s English Dub

Marcille, Emily Rudd's character

Marcille, the half-Elf

Delicious in Dungeon is an upcoming anime that Netflix will be broadcasting and dubbing worldwide. It is a dungeon explorer anime, with a focus on cooking. Titled Dungeon Meal in Japan, the anime features a lot of standard fantasy races. Like many of the Dungeons and Dragons-inspired anime (such as Goblin Slayer and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime), the show features elves, dwarves and halflings, basically anything that won’t look out of place in a Tolkien-inspired tabletop RPG.

Among the main characters is a half-elf mage called Marcille Donato, who specializes in fire magic. Given the premise of the show, it is safe to assume that the character will be an integral part of the story. This character is the role that Emily Rudd will be essaying in the English dub of the show, the first episode of which is already airing as of January 4th, 2024.

What is Delicious in Dungeon?

Delicious in Dungeon Anime

While the art style and general vibe of the anime may betray a comic and shonen-style story, the plot for Delicious in Dungeon is far more sinister, so much so that the manga (and by extension the anime) is billed as a Seinen series rather than a Shonen one. This means that the property is aimed at a mature male audience, as opposed to teenagers and young boys.

The premise of the show is such that a party finds itself in a precarious situation when it must mount a rescue for a teammate who has been eaten by a dragon. With all their resources scattered in the dungeon as a part of the escape spell, the party must survive by living off of what the dungeon has to offer, to reach the dragon before their teammate is fully digested. Gives a whole new meaning to the title now, doesn’t it?
