Eiichiro Oda took inspiration from Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen for Luffy’s Gear 5.
SUMMARY
The world has gone crazy over Luffy’s most recent power, Gear 5, as it has amazed all anime fans and accomplished incredible feats.
Nonetheless, many people think that Oda san may have drawn inspiration for Luffy’s Gear 5 techniques from Gege Akutami’s manga due to Takaba’s Jujutsu Kaisen abilities.
His approach and Gear 5’s are extremely similar in that they both add a comic touch to the story and have the ability to change reality to suit their ideas.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator and mastermind behind the epic tale of One Piece is known to inspire many other mangakas for their work. His art has been a journey for the fans and a learning lesson for other manga writers and their work.
Even the great Oda needs inspiration to make One Piece the best-selling manga it is today. The recent reveal of Luffy’s latest powers Gear 5 has taken the world by storm as it has achieved impossible feats and has impressed every anime fan.

However, Takaba’s abilities from Jujutsu Kaisen have led many people to believe that Oda san might have taken inspiration from Gege Akutami’s manga for Luffy’s Gear 5 techniques. Both, Luffy’s and Takaba’s abilities share a lot of similarities and this has brought up the speculation that Oda might have taken inspiration from Takaba for Gear 5.
Eiichiro Oda Took Inspiration from Jujutsu Kaisen for Luffy’s Gear 5
Finally making his debut, Takaba Fumihiko, the comedic hero of Jujutsu Kaisen, can rival Luffy with his Cursed Technique. Fans can now witness the full extent of Takaba’s Cursed Technique and its absurd possibilities in Jujutsu Kaisen, as he finally takes on Kenjaku in battle. Except that Gear Five didn’t exist when Takaba and his Cursed Technique first appeared.
His method and Gear 5’s are very similar in that they both can alter reality to fit their ideas, and they both bring a humorous element to the narrative, bringing some lightheartedness and humor to the grim and difficult battle so that it can evolve and take new turns.
Luffy Gear 5
These instances prove that Gear 5 Luffy’s abilities are inspired by Takaba and his cursed technique as they both are too similar to notice, however, one can point out the fact that although Takaba was introduced first, his true cursed technique was introduced much later in the story.
Similarities Between Luffy Gear 5 and Takaba’s Cursed Technique
Given their respective abilities to change reality, Takaba and Gear Five seem to have similar functions. With almost perfect ease, Takaba can materialize situations and switch between dimensions. Luffy can even accomplish these feats, but he can only change his form as well as the forms of those around him and the objects themselves with his Gear 5.
Such is the seeming limit of his power to change reality and the laws of physics.
Takaba’s Cursed TechniqueBoth characters are not just similar in terms of power. They both provide a comedic aspect at the crucial moment of the story and lighten the mood of intense battle scenes making it more interesting for the fans. It is not clear whether Oda took inspiration from Akutami or not, but both these characters have changed the direction of the story and fans would love to see them more.
