Eiichiro Oda became the executive producer so that he could make decisions regarding the story if he felt like it.
SUMMARY
One Piece live action season 1 broke several records and achieved astonishing success.
Eiichiro Oda was closely involved in the production of the series and was the executive producer as well.
The reason he wanted to become an executive producer was to have enough power to make changes to the story if deemed necessary.
One Piece live action was a huge gamble, and each member, including the actors, director, and Oda sensei, had to work extremely hard to make sure the series did not end up like all the previous live actions, which were box office disasters and destroyed the hard-earned legacy of the show.

One Piece live-action was developed by American writer-producers Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, but Eiichiro Oda executive-produced the popular show. Oda Sensei was after the executive producer title so that he could have enough control over the series and make changes if things went wrong.

Oda sensei was after the executive producer title of One Piece live-action for a very particular reason
Turning the world of One Piece into a live-action film was a considerable task, and Netflix was wise enough to involve Oda sensei in the production to achieve success.
Unlike the previous live-actions, where the creators had nothing to do with the live-action, Oda sensei worked actively on the project to ensure it was a success.
He was the executive producer of One Piece live-action, and although some fans believe it was to make money or fame, the real reason might come across as surprising.

Speaking in an interview with Borneo Bulletin, Oda sensei expanded on why it was necessary to become an executive producer so that he could have sufficient power to make changes if things go south and before it was too late, he said:
“I knew that if something was going in the wrong direction, I needed that executive producer title to be able to put a stop to things before it’s too late.”
“They allowed me to have the right to give the final blessing on all aspects of this production, whether it’s the scripts or the editing. And if I wasn’t satisfied, this wouldn’t see the light of day.
This proves that Oda sensei wanted to make sure that his magnum opus got the justice it deserved and, therefore, decided to become an executive producer so that he could be as close to the project as possible.

However, according to the time that went into producing season 1 and maintaining the same production quality, it is safe to say that the upcoming season is still a few years away.
But the wait will definitely be worth it, as the second season will introduce several new fan favorites and set the base for Luffy’s journey along with his trusted and loyal Straw hats.
