Almost a decade after its inception, the Magic Mike franchise is finally done. So says Channing Tatum. The Vow star is finally done with the story. A return might be on the cards if he ever wanted to bring to life grumpy old strippers. This brings down the curtains on the magic of Channing Tatum AKA Mike.

It would be wrong to attribute the magic of Magic Mike to Tatum only. Gabriel Iglesias, making his Hollywood debut in the 2012 film, might have been portraying a minor role, but he was totally on the money. Despite his performance, he was not offered the respect he deserved in the film.

Gabriel Iglesias was the “ear candy” in Magic Mike

Gabriel Iglesias’s Hollywood debut in 2012 was one to forget. In one of his stand-ups, the 47-year-old shared his experience of working on the movie. And why did his girlfriend at the time call him a gay pervert?

Iglesias played the DJ. There was one scene in the film when he had to breathe life into the show. With his voice, that is. Sitting on the side of the dance stage didn’t mean he wouldn’t have to play his part. Director Steven Soderbergh made him the guy who “provides the ear candy” for every shot.

Gabriel Iglesias was the ‘DJ’ in Magic Mike

Soderbergh expected his DJ to rev up each shoot with not only the music but with his energy as well. And The Fluffy Movie star would have no problem. Recollecting everything that went down on set in the Magic Mike Story, he said,
“When the dancing dancer comes out, camera starts panning and all of a sudden I’m in my DJ booth and I start DJ’ing it up right here.” (Magic Mike Story)
If one wonders what he means by “DJ’ing” it’s more than just sound. Iglesias is dancing the best he can, taking all the feels. Even his audience couldn’t keep their laughs in after watching him. After the scene was over, Soderbergh told him, “That’s what I’m talking about give me more.”

The Smurfs: The Lost Village voice actor gave him more.

The pervert in a box

Gabriel IglesiasGabriel Iglesias felt he was wronged after watching the screening of Magic Mike
Fast forward to the screening, Garbiel Iglesias went with his girlfriend to the Warner Brothers Studios to witness his debut. He continued,
“We’re sitting there and we’re waiting for that part to come up and I tell her baby it’s coming it’s coming.”
He continued,
“You see the dancer you can’t even see his head all you see is his body all freaking ripped and moving and in the background in the DJ booth… All you see in the background is some chubby pervert in a box having the time of his life.”
Iglesias was not one happy man. And to top all that, his girlfriend remarked, “You’re gay,” after seeing the “ear candy”. No wonder he felt a little betrayed.
