Margot Robbie got her big break in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street where she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. During the audition for the film, Robbie pulled off a stunning improvisation that surprised both Scorsese and DiCaprio and solidified her for the part in the film.

Margot Robbie auditioned for Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street, which if selected, she would get to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. She was enacting a scene with the actor during which she improvised a slap on the actor. This surprised both Scorsese and DiCaprio and this act solidified her for the female lead in the film. While talking about the slap, Robbie told Harper’s Bazaar,

“In my head I was like, ‘You have literally 30 seconds left in this room, and if you don’t do something impressive nothing will ever come of it. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance, just take it.’ And so I start screaming at him and he’s yelling back at me. And he’s really scary. I can barely keep up. And he ends it saying, ‘You should be happy to have a husband like me. Now get over here and kiss me.’

So I walk up really close to his face and then I’m like, ‘Maybe I should kiss him. When else am I ever going to get a chance to kiss Leo DiCaprio, ever? But another part of my brain clicks and I just go, Whack! I hit him in the face. And then I scream, ‘F**k you!’ And that’s not in the script at all. The room just went dead silent and I froze.”

Her improvisation changed her life as the film became her breakthrough and everyone in the industry and the audiences began to notice her and sing her praises. She gained significant fame and reputation and has since gone on to become one of the most interesting and compelling actresses to watch on screen.

The producer of the film Josey McNamara teased the film and the excitement regarding the reunion of the two actors to GamesRadar+ saying,

“I can’t really say much, but I think we’re just trying to do right by the franchise. I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s ready. They’re wonderful together. The more projects even outside of that we can have them do would be amazing.” 

Robbie is still celebrating the success of the highest-grossing film of her career and 2023 with Barbie. Gosling has an upcoming David Leitch action thriller film called The Fall Guy where he stars opposite Emily Blunt and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
