However, the disastrous box office collection of Rambo: Last Blood eventually proved why he should have quit the franchise.

Sylvester Stallone Revived The Rambo Franchise Despite Concerns 

After coming up with several installments dedicated to the trademark knife-wielding character, Rambo, Sylvester Stallone decided to quit the franchise. With growing age, the actor revealed during his 2010 interview with Time, how he wanted to put an end to the franchise with the 4th sequel.
“It would be very inappropriate at my age to have Rambo disappearing into the woods. Where’s he going to go? When does he stop running, when he’s 90? He can’t run anymore. Why? Because he can’t get his walker up the hill!”

Further, Stallone even mentioned the same thing during his interview with Variety in 2016, surrounding his decision for Rambo. Claiming that he doesn’t want to carry on the franchise any longer, the actor discussed his honest opinions.

“The heart’s willing, but the body says, ‘Stay home! It’s like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else.”

But eventually, as fans started asking more and more about his decisions regarding Rambo 5, Sylvester Stallone gave in and came up with Rambo: Last Blood in 2019. However, as the veteran actor revived the franchise for his fans, he was proved why his concerns were right.

Keeping his concerns aside, Sylvester Stallone came up with Rambo: Last Blood, considering that fans might turn the movie into another blockbuster. Since audiences were constantly bugging him about another sequel after the release of the 4th part, the actor believed his 5th installment would turn into an epic closure for his character.

However, unfortunately, Sylvester Stallone‘s concerns were proved right. Fans weren’t quite impressed with Rambo: Last Blood, and therefore the action flick turned into a $91M box office disaster. Critics called the movie abysmal and fans mentioned that the 5th sequel could’ve been fun, clever, and interesting, with a better plot and some self-awareness.
“Rambo: Last Blood is a step down from its predecessors. It’s barely a Rambo movie, instead operating as a generic “old man out for a kill” actioner that happens to star a pop culture icon.” Forbes wrote.
