Travis Kelce‘s trainer has opened up for the Kansas City Chiefs star’s health amid the tight end’s struggles on the field this season.

The reigning Super Bowl champions haven’t produced their usual form this season, falling to 9-6 following a 20-14 Christmas day loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

And as the Chiefs’ offense has stumbled so has Kelce, who hasn’t been the same difference-maker he has in recent years.

Amid the Chiefs’ offensive woes, many critics have pointed the finger at Kelce’s new girlfriend, pop star Taylor Swift but his trainer, Andrew Spruill, shut down those accusations, branding them ‘ludicrous’.

Instead, Spruill, who lives down in Florida, named Kelce’s health as the reason behind his struggles.

‘He started off hurt and missed game one,’ Spruill told the Palm Beach Post. ‘Two days before the game, he hyperextended his knee at practice.’

Kelce suffered a hyperextended knee in practice just days before the Chiefs opener against the Detroit Lions.

He was initially feared to miss the entire season but in a boost to Kansas City, only ended up being ruled out for the Week 1 loss.

‘He’s been as healthy as you can be for an NFL player for his career,’ Spruill added. ‘Rookie year he missed but hadn’t missed a game until this year.

‘That, plus a new offense, and receivers they have, it hasn’t come together as it was expected to. It definitely put a damper on his typical production.’

Despite lacking his usual high output, Kelce is still on track to register 103 receptions for 1,106 yards and six touchdowns as quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target.

Spruill has been training Kelce since the 2013 NFL Combine and the two-time Super Bowl winner has spent seven of 11 offseasons down in Boca Raton to work out with the trainer for two months.

And Spruill expects him to balance the offseason between sending time with Swift and the gym ahead of returning for another season.

‘According to him, he’s coming back,’ Spruill said. ‘I went up for two games to go see him. I trust he’ll be back, especially if he wants to keep playing at the age he is. He needs to get in the gym and make sure he’s ready.’
