He recently complained about a lack of playing time

NFL All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard has found himself out of work after being released by the Indianapolis Colts.

Leonard has struggled for playing time with the Colts this season after two back surgeries in 2022 to correct nerve issues.

When he did make the field, the 2018 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year struggled to make much of an impact.

“Indy, I want to thank you for accepting me and my family with open arms,” Leonard wrote on social media.

“These past 6 years has been nothing but incredible!

“Through the good times and bad time y’all stood by my side.

“I apologize for not bringing that trophy back to the 317.

“The energy in Lucas Oil has been nothing but amazing and I thank you for every memory.

“I’m thankful to play for such an amazing fan base.

“I love you guys and wish the Colts nothing but the best. Maniac out.”

The 28-year-old was selected by the Colts in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Leonard was a first-team All-Pro in 2018, 2020 and 2021.

The four-time Pro Bowler recently expressed his dismay about his lack of playing time.

“It sucks that you’re already not playing on third (down), and then you’re taking down the reps on first and second,” Leonard told the Indianapolis Star.

“It’s very heartbreaking to hear that but it is what it is.

“I just got to continue to get better, continue to play hard, continue to be the best guy I can for this team and for this defense.”

Colts owner Jim Irsay acknowledged that the NFL is a “tough business.”

Leonard, who has made $52 million in his career, must clear waivers before becoming a free agent.

In 2021, he signed a five-year, $99 million contract.
