Rewind to 2016, and with Brady already a New England Patriots icon, who better to bring into the pitch to bring a prime Kevin Durant to the Boston Celtics?

Unfortunately for the Celtics, according to Durant’s longtime agent Rick Kleiman, Brady was more focused on helping another great win, than bringing him to Boston.

During an appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, Kleiman opened up on Durant’s foray into free agency seven years ago.

“I remember when the Celtics came. So it was the Celtics’ ownership and Danny Ainge and I think Jae Crowder and Kelly Olynyk was there, but here came Tom Brady,” he said.

“So it was like, alright, s**t, they’re really trying to level the playing field. So (Brady and Durant) went to take a walk together, I think.

“Then later on KD was like, ‘So he told me, bottom line, look for the best team, best organization, best chance to win, no matter what.’

“I think Brady just told me to go to the (Golden State) Warriors, bro.”

And it wasn’t just Brady who was brought in on the pitch, with fellow Patriots star Julian Edelman and Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz also in on it.

“From the fans, to the history, to the amazing city itself, Boston is best place to play hands down @kdtrey5,” tweeted Edelman along with a photo of him in a No. 35 Celtics jersey.

Ortiz, meanwhile, tweeted: “Yo @KDTrey5 sorry I couldn’t make the meeting today but Brady will tell u they don’t call Boston the City of Champions for nothing.”

Durant wound up signing for Golden State on a two-year deal worth over $54million.

He went on to spend three seasons as a member of the Warriors, winning the NBA Championship in his first two, during which he was named the Finals MVP for both.

Brady, meanwhile, won another two Super Bowls with the Patriots before finishing his storied career in Tampa Bay where he and the Buccaneers won him his seventh ring.

As for the Celtics, their Championship drought has now lasted fifteen seasons.
