Anne Hathaway Further Proves Why Christopher Nolan Is the Best in the Business!
During the Actors on Actors conversation featuring Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway, both of whom have collaborated with the legendary Christopher Nolan, it was inevitable that the director would eventually at some point become the focal point of the conversation. True to this, Nolan’s name arose, prompting Anne Hathaway to recount one of the most heartwarming stories that might just solidify the director as her favorite in the industry.
It is no secret that in terms of crafting brilliant pieces of work, Nolan is indeed the best. However, in striving to achieve his envisioned perfection, he often exerts great effort on the people around him to get everything absolutely right. Therefore, just to clarify, there was nothing wrong with how Hathaway performed on set, this was something Nolan did. Hathaway in Variety’s Actors on Actors revealed,
“The part that blows my mind about Chris is that he is authoritative in the best sense of the word. I remember one day we were doing a shot on “The Dark Knight Rises.” He came to me beforehand and said, “I just want you to know, this shot has lived in my head for many years. I’m going to be very specific about it. I’m going to make you do it a lot, but it’s not actually you. It’s just because I have it in my head a certain way.–For him to say that in a way where, as an actor, you don’t start to question yourself!

Emily Blunt Expands on How to Tell When Christopher Nolan Is Pleased
Despite being a tough nut to crack, for actresses like Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway, achieving Christopher Nolan’s satisfaction isn’t an insurmountable task. Consequently, Blunt disclosed the telltale sign after having worked in Oppenheimer that indicates whether he is content with a scene or not. She said,
“I always feel that with Chris’ hair. I can tell when he is very happy with a take because his hair starts to dance. It’s almost like he vibrates when he’s happy. He’s not going to tell you that he’s that happy, though, because he’s very English.”

“We’ve all been on those sets where the director is a bad dad. You know what I mean? A bad dad who has an ego and an agenda. Chris is a good one.”

Being a stellar artist is one aspect, but being a good human being is a whole different ball game that these two actresses certainly acknowledge.
