Taylor Lautner dated Taylor Swift for five months over 10 years ago and has remained friends with the pop star ever since.

And the Twilight alum, 31, is proud to have received the seal of approval by her fans.

Speaking with People at the Lemons Foundation 1st Charity Gala on Sunday, Lautner responded to being known as Swift’s ‘best ex.’

‘[That] sounds like a nice compliment to me,’ he said. ‘I will take it.’

He said his wife, Taylor Dome Lautner, is a ‘diehard Swiftie.’

‘She let me know that I’m the only ex without a diss track now,’ he explained. ‘So that sounds like a nice thing. I’ll take it and run. No complaints here.’

Lautner’s brief relationship with Swift actually inspired her to write the positive 2010 track Back To December.

His wife said: ‘In my mind they’re not even exes.’ Lautner chimed in to add that Taylor is ‘our friend.’

Despite being exes, the duo have remained friends over the years, with Lautner even making an appearance at her Kansas City Eras Tour stop over the summer and performing backflips on stage.

‘I’ve been in front of a lot of people before, but I’ve never been in front of 75,000 Swifties before,’ he told People of the experience. ‘And it’s a different level of passion. So that was just pretty surreal.’

Lautner had high praise for the songstress, adding: ‘She deserves everything that she is getting and going through right now because she’s the hardest-working person.’

‘And just being at the pinnacle that she’s at right now, the way that she carries herself and is just so gracious and kind to absolutely everyone, no matter who you are, it speaks to her character. And that’s the greatest part about her in my opinion.’

Lautner previously described his friendship with Swift on his podcast The Squeeze, calling her the ‘coolest’ and ‘chillest person ever.’

Recalling introducing his ex to his wife, he said: ‘I know on paper, it sounds like a tough situation, but I not once was ever worried about it.’

‘We’re just confident in our relationship. Tay is the coolest, chillest person ever. She also is a diehard fan of that person. And [Swift] is the sweetest human being on Earth, so it kind of was just a perfect situation.’

His wife Taylor, 26, was wearing an Eras Tour T-shirt, and admitted it helps that Swift is ‘as nice as she is, and so sweet and so respectful.’

‘She’s just a nice person, very disarming. You wouldn’t know she was famous if you didn’t know who she was. You would never know. A laidback vibe is definitely our vibe. She makes it easy, I don’t know! I’m here for the Swifties. I feel like the middle man. I feel like I have a duty to be a voice for the Swifties,’ Tay explained.

‘Obviously now knowing her on a personal level – not that she is a different person on stage versus in private – but there’s just like, a friend. It’s so easy and laidback. I said it before, I love meeting people like that.

‘You can just have genuine conversations with them. She’s cracking jokes, she’s hysterical. It’s been so fun to get to know her and I love having people like that in my life and in our life, I feel really thankful to call her a friend.’
