Split image of Jimmy Butler and Michael Jordan both dunking.
Rumors of Jimmy Butler being Michael Jordan’s illegitimate son are doing the rounds again ahead of the NBA Finals.

Butler and the Miami Heat are headed to a championship-deciding series against the Denver Nuggets after beating the Boston Celtics in seven games. The former Marquette star has put in another stellar playoff run on a personal front, helping the Heat reach the finals as an eighth-seeded Play-in team.

With Jimmy turning it on in the postseason like no one has ever done before, and not for the first time, rumors of him being MJ’s son have resurfaced on social media. While there’s nothing of credence to suggest the two are even remotely related, speculation is gaining traction yet again.

I think I’m going to support the conspiracy theory that Jimmy Butler is Michael Jordan’s son. I don’t have much else going on right now except work and family. pic.twitter.com/dWL7tWuOX4

The rumor started in 2016 and stems from a questionable report claiming His Airness had an illegitimate, unidentified son while he was a star with the Chicago Bulls back in the 80s.

It’s known that Jimmy’s father left him and his mother during his formative years, with his mom kicking him out as a teen. To be fair, it does feed the bizarre notion that he’s somehow the son of Michael Jordan, plus there is a bit of a resemblance between the two, as well as some similarities with their mid-range games.

Of course, this is all just internet fantasy. But, while Butler continues to be a force in the postseason, why not run with it?
