Kansas City Chiefs facing doubts as true contenders due to recent losses, despite being defending Super Bowl champions.

MMA fighter Colby Covington accuses Travis Kelce of fake relationship with Taylor Swift, claiming it’s an NFL ploy to boost ratings.
Official statements and viewership numbers indicate high ratings for recent Chiefs games, debunking claims of declining NFL ratings.

The Kansas City Chiefs have had a rough stretch, losing three out of their last four games, including their second meeting against the Las Vegas Raiders. With a record of 9-6, some fans are doubting their status as true contenders, despite being the defending Super Bowl champions.

But it seems that the Chiefs’ struggles on the field aren’t the only thing being called into question. Mixed martial arts fighter Colby Covington has accused Travis Kelce of having a fake relationship with Taylor Swift, claiming it’s a ploy by the NFL to boost ratings.

Covington made these allegations during an appearance on the Newsmax platform. He criticized Kelce for being a spokesperson for Pfizer, saying it was “disgusting” and “despicable.” Covington believes that the NFL’s low ratings have prompted them to create a false romance between Kelce and Swift, and then use Kelce to promote getting vaccinated.

Kelce himself confirmed his relationship with Swift in a feature article by The Wall Street Journal. Swift even attended a Chiefs game back in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. Reports have surfaced about Kelce trying to contact Swift during her tour and the couple being seen together in public. Kelce even took a trip to Argentina to spend time with Swift during the Chiefs’ bye week.

Despite Covington’s claims about declining NFL ratings, official statements from the networks that cover the games tell a different story. CBS Sports reported that the Christmas Day game between the Chiefs and the Raiders was the most-watched Christmas Day game since 1989, with a peak audience of 37.1 million viewers. The same game also became the most-watched Christmas Day program in CBS history, with 28.2 million viewers.

Additionally, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter noted that the Monday Night Football game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens was the second most-watched MNF game in 27 seasons. And five weeks earlier, the Chiefs’ Monday Night Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles was one of the two most-watched MNF games since 1996.

So, despite the controversy surrounding Kelce’s relationship with Swift and Covington’s claims about declining NFL ratings, the viewership numbers suggest that football fans are still tuning in to watch the games, regardless of any romantic connections or celebrity endorsements.
