Kansas City Chiefs suffer a devastating loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, eliminating their chances of securing the first seed in the AFC.

Patrick Mahomes faces criticism for his performance, with fans questioning his handling of the offense and social media ablaze with doubts about his play.
Lack of reliable weapons and inconsistent play by Mahomes has been a major challenge for the Chiefs this season, putting them at risk of an early playoff exit.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs experienced a devastating defeat on Monday, losing 20-14 to the Las Vegas Raiders in their first game of Christmas Day. This loss within the AFC West has significant consequences, as it eliminates their chances of securing the first seed in the AFC.

The 2023 season has been challenging for the Chiefs. Mahomes has been facing a lack of reliable weapons, and the pressure has been immense on Travis Kelce, who is essentially the sole receiving threat for their offense. Without concrete solutions, the Chiefs are at risk of an early exit from the playoffs.

During their loss to the Raiders, Mahomes faced heavy criticism from fans, particularly as the opposing quarterback failed to complete a single pass after the first quarter. This scrutiny has extended to social media platforms, with numerous tweets questioning Mahomes’ performance.

The inconsistency displayed by Mahomes this season is striking. We are accustomed to seeing him go to great lengths to carry his team, but his level of play has significantly declined recently. He has been missing open receivers, making poor progressions during passing plays, and making questionable decisions. While the lack of offensive weapons impacts his overall production, he shares some of the blame.

The disappointment of relying on a young receiving group and Mahomes at quarterback has been evident this season. The Chiefs’ plan has failed, and they were unable to rectify the situation before the trade deadline. The only receiver who has consistently delivered is not even a wide receiver – Travis Kelce. With 924 yards and five touchdowns, Kelce leads the team in receiving. In contrast, the top wide receiver, Rashee Rice, has only managed 754 yards and seven touchdowns. This level of production is far from sufficient for a team with Super Bowl aspirations and Mahomes leading the offense.
