NBA star Taj Gibson’s second stint with the New York Knicks has ended after just three weeks.

The 14-year veteran has been waived by the Knicks to provide the team more flexibility heading into next month’s trade deadline.

Gibson’s $2.24 million salary would’ve been guaranteed if he wasn’t released by January 7.

The big man was brought in by his former coach Tom Thibodeau after starting center Mitchell Robinson was out with an ankle injury in December.

The 38-year-old played 10 games off the bench during his spell with the Knicks, averaging 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest.

But Gibson became surplus to requirements when Precious Achiuwa arrived at the Knicks as part of a multi-player deal with the Toronto Raptors.

“Taj stepped up in a big way to help our team this season and has had an immeasurable impact on our organization both on and off the court throughout his time with the Knicks,” team president Leon Rose said in a statement.

Gibson was selected by the Chicago Bulls as the 26th overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft.

He also played for the Knicks between 2019-2022 as well as the Washington Wizards, Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Gibson is now considering going into coaching, potentially in an assistant role with the Knicks.

“I’m still considering that. But it has to be the right situation,” Gibson said.

“I want to be somewhere where I can learn, brighten my future.

“This is a bright spot for me, being around the coaching staff who I can learn from. … Here I’m so locked into the coaching staff.

“They basically taught me how to be a pro. It only fits right where I can learn, just fall right into place.”

Gibson has earned $89 million during his NBA career.
