Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Don Cheadle’s involvement stands out as a vibrant and unforgettable addition. Assuming the mantle of James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, alias War Machine, he injected a unique vitality into the character. Cheadle’s rendition, spanning numerous MCU films, demonstrated his adaptability as an actor, seamlessly interweaving humor, camaraderie, and valor.
Cheadle’s acting in films such as Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, and Avengers: Endgame enriched the progressing storyline. His dedication to the character and the rapport he shared with fellow cast members solidified his pivotal role in the MCU’s ongoing triumph. However, the actor also revealed what it’s like working in one of the biggest production houses.
Don Cheadle Reveals The Truth About Working With MCU
During an interview with Kevin Hart, Don Cheadle spoke about how amazing it is to work with the MCU. However, he also asserted that working with such a big production house can sometimes be a problem for actors, as it’s difficult to part ways with them.

“I don’t think you are trapped, because we know you could always go like a mouth. But yeah it’s kind of the mafia sometimes too where they’re like ‘you’ve been activated and we need you here in November. You’re like but ‘I was doing a thing’ and they’re like ‘yeah you was doing a thing, see you in November.”
Stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Cheadle assumed the character of James Rhodes, succeeding Terrence Howard. Since then, he has seamlessly transitioned between television and film. His upcoming appearance in Secret Invasion, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, highlights his ongoing involvement. In a conversation with People, the actor known for Crash discussed his journey as an Avenger and the close-knit connection he holds with his co-stars.

“We did a three-picture deal. You did the deal ahead of time. A certain amount for the first one. For the second, a certain amount. For the third … they came to me for the second one and said, ‘We will pay you one-eighth of what we contractually had for you, because we think the second one will be successful with or without you.’ And I called my friend that I helped get the first job, and he didn’t call me back for three months.”
Don Cheadle faced accusations of “Aunt Viv’ing” Howard, a term derived from the incident where the actress portraying Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was replaced mid-series. But Don Cheadle seems to have put that in the past and taken over the role with open arms.
Iron Man 2 is available for streaming on Disney+.
