When it comes to the Hollywood or film industry in general, it becomes a melting pot of stars from different parts of the world with different cultures and experiences coming together to create wonders for the audience. Charlize Theron is among some of the most popular stars in Hollywood who was born and raised in South Africa and still carries her cultural heritage with great pride.
And being such a massive star, she has had the chance to witness and experience different and amazing cultures and people from around the world. But some experiences have not been too kind to the star, especially from her childhood which left a lasting impression on her while growing up. Therefore, when she watched this MCU film for the first time, she became visibly distressed.

Hailed as one of the best films that Marvel Studios created over the course of the last decade of their operations, Black Panther became an instant hit with the audience thanks to the execution of the entire film as a whole. Apart from the audience, several stars from the industry couldn’t help but praise the film for everything that it brought to the table. Charlize Theron, who was born and raised in South Africa absolutely loved watching the film, but she also had a very emotional reaction to it because of her upbringing in her home country.
In a past interview with Michael B. Jordan, the star who played the role of Erik Killmonger in the MCU film, the Fast X star revealed that she had a very strong reaction to the film due to her experience living in South Africa during the Apartheid Era, where there was severe racial discrimination amongst the people. She opened up about feeling all these strong emotions while she enjoyed the film. She said:
“For me to watch Black Panther as the person I am—and I know this sounds crazy to a lot of people—but it is a very emotional thing, it was a very emotional thing for me to watch it, I was born and raised in South Africa during the apartheid era, and I am very much a white African who lived and thrived under tremendously dark circumstances. And that really marks you as a person. Whether that’s your ideology or not, you’re living in it.”
With her past childhood experiences, she went through, she is now grateful for her position as a famous Hollywood actor who can travel the world and figure out what is right and wrong and what she needed to understand about the world.

While Marvel Studios may have been putting out some exceptional films before, the release of Black Panther was so phenomenal that even Disney couldn’t have predicted it. The depiction of the traditional African culture in modern times was so downright inspired and adapted to perfection that people felt a sense of learning about it the whole time they watched the film.
Along with that, the costume and set designs, along with an exceptional soundtrack were some of the reasons why the world fell in love with this film.
