Without realizing the gravity of his words, the British actor passed comments and shared remarks that immediately caused a backlash, leading Cavill to apologize.

After the #MeToo movement started gaining widespread attention in 2017, several abusive celebrities came to the forefront, while the righteous ones were simply asked for their opinion on the same. Thus, Henry Cavill was asked about his opinion on the MeToo movement and what he might have learned from it.

During an interview with GQ Australia, the actor opened up about his opinion on the active MeToo movement. While addressing the fact that men’s abusive behavior must change, Cavill voiced his concerns about flirting in the post-MeToo era. “Stuff has to change, absolutely…but there’s something wonderful about a man chasing a woman. There’s a traditional approach to that,” Cavill stated.
I think a woman should be wooed and chased, but maybe I’m old-fashioned for thinking that. It’s very difficult to do that if there are certain rules in place. Because then it’s like: ‘Well, I don’t want to go up and talk to her, because I’m going to be called a r*pist or something’.”

Following Henry Cavill’s concerning remarks about flirting in the post-MeToo era, the actor seemingly offended a few people. Finding his concerns pointless, feminists thus began slamming the actor for his derogatory comments. Going public, in order to avoid “any confusion and misunderstanding” that his remarks might have caused, Henry Cavill apologized to end the issue. Sharing a statement, the actor mentioned, “insensitivity was absolutely not my intention”. He further added,
“In light of this, I would just like to clarify and confirm to all that I have always and will continue to hold women in the highest of regard, no matter the type of relationship”.
