Throughout most of her career, Jennifer Lopez primarily stuck to roles in drama and romance movies. Although she did take on a few action-oriented parts, such as those in Enough and Anaconda, they simply didn’t match the intensity of her portrayal as a former US Army operative in The Mother. Lopez who’s still in great shape jokingly shared with The View that she wishes she had landed such roles when she was more youthful:

“I wish I had gotten these types of roles… when I was a little bit more, you know, spry. But a little bit, you know, younger.”

For her role in the movie, she had to undergo extensive training to master action choreography and familiarize herself with handling various weapons. In the film, the Parker actress is a trained assassin who emerges from hiding to protect her daughter.

Shortly after making her film debut, Jennifer Lopez shifted her focus to her music career. The Selena star is mostly recognized for her showmanship and undeniable s*x appeal. In addition to on-screen drama, Lopez’s personal life has been marked by some off-screen drama with a series of failed relationships, making her a tabloid fixture and sometimes seen as a demanding diva.

Given her less-than-perfect public image, fans could hardly imagine her in leading action roles. She is successfully breaking that mold with her latest movie, proving that she can excel in the action genre as well.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the next outing of The Wedding Planner actress who is also a busy film producer with a number of projects under her name. For now, you can catch The Mother on Netflix!
