Samuel L. Jackson has impressed the global audience with his rough-tough Nick Fury role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He has shown a different side of the same character in the gritty Secret Invasion with many praising his performance.

Despite being an integral and old member of the franchise, he is quite annoyed at the studio for not putting his character in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War featuring Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

Samuel L. Jackson has been featured in MCU films all thanks to his Nick Fury role that he reprised in the new Secret Invasion seriesBut, he was apparently unhappy after Marvel left his character out in Captain America: Civil War which happened to be quite a crucial film that featured major conflict between two superheroes- Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man and Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers/Captain America.

In The Hollywood Reporter roundtable, he shared his opinions stating,
“That was the thing about the Avengers movies, they all had different personalities and they were able to blossom once we got through the initial film. The initial film was to introduce these people to who they are and these are the things they can do. Now, this is how they interact and they’re not all nice.”
He continued,
“And I fussed at them, I still fuss at them, about ‘Civil War’ because I’m like, ‘How could the kids fight and Nick Fury not show up?’ Like, ‘What’s going on here? Everybody go to your room.’ But they didn’t need me for that. They did, but they didn’t.”
Not just Civil War, he even shared his disappointment when Fury was unable to visit Wakanda.
“If I had it my way, I would’ve been in every Marvel movie because, I mean, he is Nick Fury, he knows everything that’s going on. I’m still trying to figure out why I’ve never been to Wakanda.”
However, co-writer, Christopher Markus explained the reason why he was kept out of the 2016 film.

While Jackson had his theory for what he would have done if Fury was there with the kids in the 2016 film, screenwriters, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed the real reason. They shared that having Fury in the film would entirely change the setting of the film as they didn’t want him to choose a specific team.

Markus shared,
“Primarily it felt like one too many possible opinions. We didn’t want him to take one side or the other, because that’s not his place in the universe.”
They also wanted to avoid ‘polemic discussion’ which would have left to explore if he had been present. The screenwriter continued,
“And then we didn’t want another, ‘Is he still with the government? Is he opposed to the government but supporting the government?’ It got to be the potential for a lot more polemic discussion that the movie did not have room for.”
Their points were completely valid since Fury’s presence would definitely weigh a lot in the film. The film turned out to be a commercial success thus grossing over $1.1 billion worldwide. Meanwhile, Secret Invasion starring the 74-year-old actor is now available on Disney+.
