Cage’s intense energy, commitment to his characters, and ability to bring depth to complex roles have solidified his status as a respected actor in the industry. His charisma and willingness to take risks continue to captivate fans, making him a true icon in Hollywood. However, he regrets doing something unusual for one of his roles.
Nicolas Cage Had To Eat Live Cockroaches In A Film
In the cult comedy film, Vampire’s Kiss released in 1998, Nicholas Cage’s character Peter Loew famously consumed live cockroaches as part of a daring scene. Reflecting on that unique experience, Cage expressed to Yahoo Entertainment his decision to never repeat such a daring act.

During a pivotal scene in the film, Nicolas Cage’s character, Peter Loew, encounters a cockroach crawling across his stove in his apartment. In a bold move, Cage deviated from the original script, which called for him to consume a raw egg, and instead insisted on actually ingesting the live cockroach.
“I saw it as a business decision because when people see the cockroach go in my mouth… [they] really react,” Cage said.
In another interview with Mediacorp, Nicolas Cage delved deeper into his experiences involving bug-eating on screen. Reflecting on his role in Vampire’s Kiss, Cage expressed that his particular experience during that film was sufficient.“Every time I think about it, I’m sometimes traumatized by it, and I don’t ever want to do it again or anything like it again.”
Nicolas Cage’s Co-star Also Had To Eat Cockroaches
Cage recently took on the role of Renfield in the upcoming comedy horror film Renfield, which revolves around the misadventures of Dracula’s loyal but tormented assistant, R. M. Renfield, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult. Interestingly, Hoult’s character is tasked with consuming the cockroaches rather than Cage in this particular film.

“The cockroaches I got to eat in this were caramel,” Hoult told Yahoo. “I also had crickets that were actually quite yummy; they were salt and vinegar-flavored or barbecue smoky-flavored.”
Nicholas Hoult candidly revealed that the experience of eating cockroaches for the film was far from pleasant. According to him, the cockroaches did not dry out well, resulting in a less-than-appealing taste that unmistakably resembled that of bugs. “It wasn’t good,” Hoult said. “It didn’t dry out so good and tasted every bit of bug.“
Vampire’s Kiss is available for streaming on Pluto.
