Evans shared,
“You know which one was a close one? Fracture. Remember Fracture with Ryan Gosling? I honestly have never had a better audition in my life. I hate auditioning. Despise it. I think most actors do, but I got that one and knocked it right out. And it was so great and I had such a great rapport with the director and really felt like it was coming my way.”
Though the role did not work out for Evans, the movie was not a blockbuster as he had expected. Fracture earned $92 million at the box office.

Ryan Gosling on working with Anthony Hopkins in Fracture

Fracture was the first movie in which Ryan Gosling played the role of a serious lawyer who is trying to prosecute an unrepentant murderer. In an interview with MTV, the actor opened up about his role,
“I liked him because he’s supposed to be the good guy, but he’s really not that good. He’s a narcissistic, selfish, cocky guy, and he’s OK with it — just as long as he doesn’t officially become a bad guy. In this movie, he’s presented with this situation: If he lets this woman die for a promotion, he’s going to be someone he doesn’t want to be. So he reluctantly [takes on the case], and every time he has to do the right thing, it’s a pain in the ass. I thought that was interesting.”
