Tom Brady is the GOAT of the NFL, but a surprising name dethroned him in college
THE greatest passer in the University of Michigan history might not be who you expect.
The most notable player to come out of the University of Michigan is obviously Tom Brady, but his success in the NFL isn’t really reflected in his Michigan stats.

He passed for a respectable 4,773 yards with 30 touchdowns, but another player doubled those numbers.
Chad Henne lit the stat sheets on fire for Michigan, passing for 9,715 yards in his career with 87 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. Outside of John Navarre, those are by far the highest totals in team history.
Henne was a four-year starter, passing for over 2,500 yards and 20 touchdowns each season of his college career except for his senior year.
He only threw over ten interceptions once in his freshman year.
They won the conference championship in his freshman year in 2004 with a 9-3 record and then bounced back and forth in the standings.
In 2005 Michigan dropped to 7-5, then they catapulted to 11-2 in 2006, but then dropped down to 9-4 in 2007.
The biggest knock on Henne’s college career was his record against Ohio State.
The Michigan-Ohio State rivalry is one of the biggest in college football, but since the turn of the century, it has been dominated by Ohio State.
That includes a stretch from 2004 to 2010 where Ohio State won seven games in a row, four of them started by Chad Henne.
Henne would go on to get drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins and took over the starting role in 2009.
Unfortunately, his success at Michigan didn’t translate to the NFL, as he never won more than seven games in a season in his career.
In four seasons with the Dolphins, Henne went 13-18 with 7,114 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions.
From there he would go to the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he played to a 5-17 record with 27 touchdowns and 26 interceptions over five seasons.
In 2018 Henne landed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a backup to Patrick Mahomes, and he now has two Super Bowl rings because of it.
He announced his retirement from the NFL after the Chiefs won their most recent Super Bowl, ending his 13-year career on a high note.
The New York Jets reportedly offered Henne a contract after Aaron Rodgers went down with an Achilles injury this year, but he turned it down after reiterating his desire to remain in retirement.
Henne has enjoyed his retired life with his wife and kids, and recently starred in a series of commercials with Patrick Mahomes.
