Matthew Vaughn expressed his wants to craft an interconnected spy universe, comprising of the Kingsman films and the upcoming Argylle.

While the Kingsman movies borrow a lot from James Bond, following its more over-the-top, violent, and comedic theme, it succeeded in giving fans of the genre a more fresh experience. And recently director Mathew Vaughn revealed he is aiming to extend the borders of his spy universe, starting with the upcoming spy thriller Argylle, starring Henry Cavill, John Cena, and Samuel L Jackson.

Although the sequel and the prequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service weren’t as well received as the 2014 release, Vaughn remains ambitious about the future of this universe moving forward.

Mathew Vaughn on Extending the Borders of His Spy Universe

Although nothing is currently set in stone on how will the possible cinematic universe map out, Mathew Vaughn hinted possible crossover between Argylle and Kingsman in the coming years. Following in the footsteps of Marvel, Vaughn expressed his wants to craft an interconnected spy universe, comprising of the Kingsman films, the upcoming Argylle, and one other possible franchise.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said,
“What Marvel is to superheroes, we want to be to spies,” Vaughn said. “We’ve got the ‘Kingsman’ on the right. ‘Argylle’ is on the left. We’ve got an idea for something in the middle, as well. We’ve got these competing franchises in a galaxy that one day might meet.”
Comprising a star-studded cast with Henry Cavill at the forefront, the success of the upcoming spy thriller will play a key role in determining the future of Vaughn’s planned spy universe.

Henry Cavill’s Role Takes Inspiration From James Bond in Argylle

While Henry Cavill missed out on playing 007 back in the mid-2000s, who is considered one of the best picks for the British spy per fans, Argylle might be the answer to fans’ wishes. Per the director, Henry Cavill”s character in the upcoming thriller is a mix of James Bond and Ivan Drago from Rocky 4, as he sings praises for the Man of Steel Star, stating it has been a blast joining forces with him.

He told Screen Rant:
“I said to Henry, Argylle is a mixture of Bond, Ivan Drago, because of Rocky 4, and just a bit of Superman spice. And he gets it. He was a delight and is a delight to work with and be with. Henry is one of the greatest, sweetest men.”
