Jay Williams is a regular contributor to First Take, but he was not happy about a social media post they put out about him over what he said when speaking about James Harden.
Williams expressed his displeasure with the First Take Twitter account that tweeted out a clip speaking on Harden and him reportedly stating he should feel “disrespected” by the Philadelphia 76ers’ contract negotiations. However, Williams pushed back on what was put out there.
“Nowhere in my commentary did I say he should feel ‘disrespected’ by the @sixers… I said by the overall marketplace that his value isn’t what he thought it was,” Williams tweeted.
What he actually said:
“Should he feel disrespected? And my answer would be, ‘You’re damn right.’ He better feel disrespected,” the former Bulls guard said. “I’m not saying he’s deserving of a long-term contract, but due to the fact the market has shrunk on the attention around James Harden, he better feel disrespected.”
First Take would go on to delete their post.
Harden might be on his way to joining a third team in three years after he exercised his $35.6 million player option and requested a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers.
There is immense pressure on the Sixers to get this trade right, as they are trying to find the right mix for their franchise cornerstone, Joel Embiid, and his aspirations to win a title in Philadelphia.
James Harden is coming off another spectacular year where he averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 10.7 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.
Harden is still one of the best playmakers and scorers in today’s NBA, but he is nowhere near the type of player he was while playing in Houston.
