Britney Spears‘ ex-husband Jason Alexander has refuted her claims that they only got married because she was ‘very drunk’ and ‘bored with her life’.

Alexander has insisted the couple were ‘very much in love’ and hadn’t been drinking before they decided to tie the knot in Vegas in 2004.

The former couple, who were childhood friends, were only wed for just 55 hours before they received an annulment for the marriage.

In her new memoir, The Woman In Me, Britney, now 42, detailed getting drunk in Sin City on a New Years trip with included her friend Paris Hilton.

She wrote: ‘He and I got sh**-faced. I don’t even remember the night at all, but from what I pieced together, he and I lounged around the hotel room and stayed up late watching movies – Mona Lisa Smile and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – then had the brilliant idea of going to A Little White Chapel at three thirty in the morning.’

Britney added: ‘People have asked me if I loved him. To be clear: he and I were not in love. I was just honestly very drunk – and probably, in a more general sense at that time in my life, very bored.’

However, since the release of her autobiography, Jason has hit out at her claims and insisted they weren’t drinking, which is how their officiant has also described it.

Jason told TMZ, that he still loves and cares for Britney but would only accept a signed copy of her book, so that he could sell it to the highest bidder.

The marriage – which took place on January 3, 2004 at A Little White Wedding Chapel, was annulled three days later on January 5.

Britney detailed her family’s reaction to her Vegas wedding – which she called ‘innocent fun.’

She said: ‘They made way too big a deal out of innocent fun. Everybody has a different perspective on it, but I didn’t take it seriously.’

Adding: ‘Everybody has a different perspective on it, but I didn’t take it that seriously. I thought a goof-around Vegas wedding was something people might do as a joke.’

‘Then my family came and acted like I’d started World War III.  I cried the whole rest of the time I was in Las Vegas,’ the star said.

Britney added that her family was ‘so against the wedding’ that she ‘started to think maybe I’d accidentally committed a brilliant act.’

She said: ‘Because I realized: something about me being under their control and not having a stronger connection to someone else had become very, very important to them… Perhaps it’s worth mentioning that, by  this point, I was supporting them financially.’

In 2008 – four years after her Vegas wedding – Britney was placed under a conservatorship for 14 years – until a judge ended it in 2021.

In 2022, Jason tried to crash Britney’s wedding to Sam Asghari as he livestreamed his attempt on Instagram.

He was convicted of battery and aggravated trespassing for the incident – which took place almost twenty years after their wedding.

In August it was reported by TMZ that Jason was arrested Wednesday in Tennessee in connection with stalking. He was allegedly following a woman repeatedly at a gym she frequented.

Legal documents claimed that he had followed the woman to the parking lot of a Life Time Fitness gym in Franklin, Tennessee, which is near Nashville, on June 17.

The woman allegedly asked him to leave her alone, but his attempts to get close to her appear to have only escalated from there.

Alexander reportedly sent her numerous text messages, and he also tried to call her repeatedly.
