The San Francisco 49ers are sitting Christian McCaffrey for the final regular-season game of 2023 as the running back is dealing with a fitness issue on the heels of his last appearance.
McCaffrey was seen receiving treatment on the sideline during Sunday’s win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. And Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan has since revealed that the player sustained a milf calf strain that will keep him out of their Week 18 fixture against the Los Angeles Rams.
San Francisco has already locked up the No. 1 seed in the NFC and will not risk their All-Pro RB in what is now a meaningless game. It means the player will end the season with 1,459 rushing yards, 564 receiving yards, and 21 total touchdowns.
Fans will see him again in the playoffs.
