San Antonio Spurs rookie Wembanyama, 19, made his NBA Summer League debut in July at a sold-out Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

While the Spurs went on to beat the Charlotte Hornets 76-68 on the night, it was a game to forget for the young Frenchman.

In 27 minutes, he racked up just nine points, eight rebounds, five blocks, and three assists.

And during a recent press conference, Wembanyama admitted that he was left less than impressed by Las Vegas.

“To me, probably on Earth, it’s the closest thing to a dystopia,” he said, adding: “I’m not the biggest fan of Vegas.”

Reflecting on his debut, Wembanyama said that the NBA’s rules, equipment, and environment “Was pretty weird at first,” going on to say: “It was like playing another sport.”

Thankfully, it seems the 7-foot-4 starlet has adapted quickly to this new sport.

In 27 games this season, Wembanyama has averaged 29.7 minutes, 18.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, and three assists.

His average of 3.2 blocks per game is also the most in the NBA.

Wembanyama has also scored 30+ points three times this season, including 38 against the Phoenix Suns in November.

But despite his best efforts, the Spurs have continued to struggle under coach Gregg Popovich.

San Antonio’s record of 5-26 has left them bottom of the Western Conference four games behind the Portland Trail Blazers, who beat them 135-128 on Friday.

Only the Detroit Pistons at 2-29 have a worse record to date.

Wembanyama and Co. will have the opportunity to end 2023 on a high note come New Year’s Eve when they host the Boston Celtics.
