When will The King be hanging it up?
After the final game of the postseason for your Los Angeles Lakers in 2022-23, All-Star forward LeBron James made headlines all across the sports world with talk of his potential retirement. James was caught up in the heat of defeat, but it’s clear that the thought has been weighing on his mind.
James isn’t getting any younger, and he understands this. But he wants to squeeze every ounce of the game of basketball out before he hands it up.
However, Father Time is undefeated, and eventually he will run out. In a conversation picked up during a team warmup, James hinted at when he plans to officially retire from basketball.

The King is in Year 21 of his NBA career and is still going strong. He remains one of the better players in the game today and is doing things that nobody ever thought would be possible.
He has helped keep the Lakers afloat this season while they have gone through some tough injury challenges. James’ has carried the Lakers, and been relied upon heavily, almost problematically, all season long.
At some point, he has to slow down, right? Well, even if he doesn’t he has some lofty goals for the rest of his basketball career.
But the number one goal is still adding more championships to his overall total. He is still driven to find success, and that is what will ultimately define him long after he is done playing.
The past season has been a remarkable one for LeBron James. Here are some of his notable achievements in the 2022 – 2023 season:
James scored an average of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game in 55 matches. These are the highest numbers in the history of the Lakers and are among the best in the NBA.
James was selected for his 19th All-Star Game. This is the 19th consecutive time he has been selected for the All-Star team, a record that no one else can match.
James won the NBA MVP award after leading the Lakers to second place in the “West: Group A” standings, along with the Blazers and Utah Jazz. He also won the All-NBA First Team award and the All-Defensive First Team award.
James had some beautiful and decisive scoring moments, such as a long-distance shot from 30 meters into the New York Knicks’ net on December 19, 2023, or a goal from the goalpost into the San Antonio Spurs’ net on December 16, 2023.
James has proven that he is still a top basketball player in the world, not only in terms of scoring ability but also in terms of playmaking, ball handling, and tactics. He has also shown that he has a high competitive spirit and is not afraid of difficulties or injuries. He is an inspiration to many basketball fans around the world.
