Lizzo is mourning the loss of her beloved dog Pooka, who died on Christmas Eve.
The “About Damn Time” singer shared the sad news on Instagram Monday, writing, “We will always love you, Pooka Diamanté Jefferson. 4•10•2005 – 12•24•2023.”
The tribute included a photo of her mom, Shari Johnson-Jefferson, cradling the canine as Lizzo and her sister, Vanessa Jefferson, gaze adoringly at Pooka.
Condolences poured in for the late pooch in the comments on the post.
“Wait nooo !! I’m so honored have met you🥲😞,” wrote SZA.

She also shared a carousel of 10 photos highlighting her cherished moments with Pooka, and even gave a look at a keepsake featuring Pooka’s paw print.
“I’m so sorry,” wrote one commenter on her second post. “Losing a pet is losing a family member. That empty space will take a long time to feel full and safe again. Be kind to yourself and give yourself time to grieve.”

“Hi. I’m working.. on music, myself, relationships with people and food, my anxiety, my body, my business, and my trust issues with the world.. but they are deep now, deeper than they’ve ever been. Xoxo,” she captioned the photo.
The singer, who was sued by several of her former backup dancers this summer, vowed to “continue to be who I am, no matter who’s watching” amid her legal woes.

“It’s easy to do the right thing when everybody’s watching you, and it’s what you do in those moments where nobody’s watching that defines who you are,” Lizzo said in her acceptance speech when she was given the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at the 2023 Black Music Action Coalition Gala in September. “I’m going to continue to be who I am, no matter who’s watching.”

“I’m going to continue to shine a light on the people who are helping people because they deserve it,” she said. “I’m going to continue to amplify the voices of marginalized people because I have a microphone and I know how to use it.”
“And I’m going to continue to put on and represent and create safe spaces for Black fat women because that’s what the f— I do,” she added.
