If Mrs. Smith’s words are to be believed then the slap helped the couple to come closer even though it was not all smooth for the Oscar-winning actor. The 2022 Academy Awards saw a shocking moment when Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock hard on his face for a joke addressed to Jada Smith. Following that, the Independence Day actor also hurled slurs at the comedian while returning to his seat. Several personalities and fans didn’t like it from a star of Smith’s stature.

It resulted in Smith’s suspension from any Academy event for a decade as well as a lot of criticism from all around. But Jada Smith is of the notion that the slap has been beneficial for them on the relationship front. In a recent interview (via Variety), Jada Smith admitted that she and Will Smith “did some really deep work together” following the controversy.

“When I was sitting at the Oscars, it clicked in. As soon as I was like, ‘Oh snap, you hit Chris?’ I was like, I’m riding with you. I didn’t come into this place as your wife, but I’m leaving here as your wife because we got a storm we’re going to have to deal with together. I am not gonna leave your side.”
The comments have attracted a wide variety of comments from all around. But still, she believes that the incident was a necessary evil in their relationship and made her believe that they were made for this journey together.

During another interview with Parade for her memoir Worthy, Jada Smith spoke more about the moment. She felt that was the moment that made her feel they were made for this journey together. She also promised her husband that she would always be there with him.
“What happens when people who love you need you, and when you need people that you love? And so that was a moment that I feel like we recognized once again, ‘Oh, snap, we are just made for this journey together.’ And I was like, ‘No matter what, I am here with you. I don’t care what is going on.’ And I think that is the moment for both of us when we looked at each other and said, ‘Wow, we’re really what we got.’”
Recently the couple faced another controversy when it was revealed that they had been separated for the past seven years. Jada Smith also added that her husband and children were supportive enough to let her write everything in the memoir.
