Some members of the cast and crew were brought together, where they shared some fresh insights into the film, one of them being Anne Hathaway not being the first choice for her role in it.

Anne Hathaway Begged for Her Role in The Devil Wears Prada

After 17 years of release, the cast and crew of the film were brought together by Entertainment Weekly for a reunion. David Frankel, the director of the movie, stated he opposed everything about the movie, and presented his vision for the adaptation.

“Something in me reacted against every beat of the screenplay at the time. It was a revenge story. It was very satirical. I just felt like I couldn’t do it, and I did everything I could over the next few weeks to worm out of the meeting.… I presented my vision for the movie, which was that Miranda is the heroine, not the villain, of the piece and that this was a coming-of-age story for Andy learning what it took to be great at something.”
David Frankel continued that they started organizing talks with Anne Hathaway, which was not taken well by the studio as they wanted Rachel McAdams for the role and offered it to her thrice, but she was not interested in playing the role.
“We started negotiating with Annie to make a deal, and that didn’t go well with the studio.… We offered it to Rachel McAdams three times. The studio was determined to have her, and she was determined not to do it.”

Since Rachel McAdams was unsure of the role, other actresses such as Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, and Kirsten Dunst were the possible choices for the role. However, Anne Hathaway begged to play the role in the film, as she found a deep connection with a topic that she takes “very seriously.”
“It spoke to me. It made me feel. It was about a subject that I take very seriously, but in such a wonderfully joyful and lighthearted way.”

True to her word, the Love and Other Drugs actress was phenomenal in her role as she portrayed the role of Andy Sachs as an aspiring journalist who has a lot of flaws while displaying a wide range of emotions.

Anne Hathaway’s Flawless Portrayal of Andy Sachs

The Interstellar actress was flawless in her role of Andy Sachs. In the novel, the character was showcased as a layered character, who became a journalist after graduating from her college full of hope and ambitions. But soon she realizes that the professional world was different than what she had initially thought of, as she is constantly at war because of her personal values and the ethical dilemmas of her profession.

In the movie, Hathaway brought the same set of emotions, that is, insecurity, internal struggles due to her profession, and vulnerabilities. The Brokeback Mountain actress played her role with ease and her portrayal of Andy Sachs was original but true to the source material, as the readers of the book enjoyed her portrayal of the character. Moreover, the chemistry Anne Hathaway shared with the rest of the cast, especially with Meryl Streep, was outstanding, who gave a tough time to Hathaway’s character in the movie.

The film was perfectly adapted, as it showcased Sachs’ physical as well as mental transformation as the film progressed. Viewers would see Sachs standing up for herself, and understanding her professional requirements more clearly, which was also evident in the movie, making her portrayal to be near perfect.
