Actors often have roles or movies that they regret doing. For Matt Damon, it was his $444 Million movie The Bourne Ultimatum that he regretted doing. The Bourne Ultimatum, a part of the billion-dollar franchise, was embarrassing for Damon, who expressed his disappointment over how it was made and written.
Despite the movie’s box-office success, Matt Damon regretted the way the production and studio dealt with the making and scriptwriting of the film. However, despite the main protagonist’s disappointment, the third installment of the franchise seems to have fared better than the others.
Matt Damon Hated His Third Bourne Movie
Damon reveals why he hated The Bourne Ultimatum
Every movie has its own low and high points. Some may perform better than what is expected of them or some may end up disappointing despite high expectations. Matt Damon, who starred in the hit Bourne franchise, has qualms about the third installment of the series.
Explaining the reason why he hated The Bourne Ultimatum, Damon revealed how Tony Gilroy, the writer of the second film, struck a deal of writing a single draft with no re-writes for an exorbitantly large amount of money.
“It’s really the studio’s fault for putting themselves in that position. I don’t blame Tony for taking a boatload of money and handing in what he handed in. It’s just that it was unreadable. This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It’s terrible. It’s really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left.”
However, The Martian star soon took his words back after backlash from fans and critics. He even apologized, mentioning how his comments were distasteful to Gilroy and stupid. Despite the star’s criticism, the movie seems to have done much better than the other, earning over $444 million, which is by no means a small sum for a movie that is ’embarrassing’.
Matt Damon Reveals How Tonty Gilroy Left The Production In A Mess
While Matt Damon regretted ‘bad-mouthing’ Tony Gilroy, he had already revealed in his GQ interview how Gilroy’s arbitrary decision left the whole production unit in a mess and utter chaos during the shoot of The Bourne Ultimatum.
“We had a start date. Like, ‘It’s coming out August of next year.’ We’re like, ‘Hang on, we’ve got to figure out what the script is.’”
After the script was completed under extreme pressure, Gilroy once again made a fuss, raising another significant challenge before them.
“Before the movie came out, he arbitrated to get sole credit.”
However, thanks to the WGA’s intervention, Gilroy’s demands were put off and the movie was finally completed after extreme struggles and challenges.
