Growing up, Scarlett Johansson was extremely passionate about musicals, and her passion for this field ignited her desire to become an actor in the first place. But by the time she was 13, her passion for musicals dried out,  even though she eventually found her footing in Hollywood, becoming one of the most celebrated stars of this century.

However, her love for musicals didn’t diminish even though her career got flooded with several other prominent roles that had nothing to do with this genre. But in the 2000s, when she initially made it big in Hollywood, the Lucy Star was approached by an acclaimed composer, to work in a stage play of the critically claimed, The Sound of Music.

Scarlett Johansson’s Management Company Wasn’t on Board With the Idea

In the beginning, when theater composer Andrew Lloyd Webber approached Scarlett Johansson with his idea of making a stage play with her at the forefront, he claimed she was initially engrossed in the idea. Following the duo’s love for musicals, and Johansson’s singing capabilities, which can be witnessed in Sing and its sequel, Johansson was initially on board with Webber’s vision. However, things went south after the Avengers Star’s management team entered into the matter, who wasn’t sold on this idea and didn’t want her client partaking in the project. Webber claimed,

“Her people were not pro the idea. It became clear that it wasn’t going to work because the demands became so ridiculous,”
Although it seemed the paycheck was the reason behind their disagreement, the management company did make a statement, claiming it was due to the actress’ commitment to other projects.

Scarlett Johansson’s Love for the Artform Is More Important Than the Paycheck

But unlike this matter, paycheck hasn’t always been on the priority list for Scarlett Johansson. Like another Marvel Star Edward Norton, who doesn’t make a lot for his work on Wes Anderson‘s movies, Johansson made a mere $4,131 a Week for Asteroid City. In total, the actress made around $33,000 for her work, which isn’t common for an industry giant like Johansson, known for making millions for her work in the MCU. But considering working with an auteur like Wes Anderson is an honor for actors, the low paycheck didn’t prevail over her love for the art form.

Apart from starring in big-budget MCU epics, the Marriage Story Star has maintained an illustrious resume throughout her career. And considering she had already made a boatload of money from her work in the massive franchise, she can allow herself to settle down for more whimsical projects, irrespective of the payday.

Asteroid City will be available to stream on Peacock next week.
