In an exclusive interview, Olivia Colman shared her decision to withdraw from the category, stating, “I am not doing it, and if we can’t do that equally, then I am not doing that.” However, Rachel Weisz, who had previously won the Best Supporting Actress award in 2006 for her role in The Constant Gardener, and Emma Stone, who had received the Best Actress award in 2017 for La La Land, had a different perspective.

They willingly stepped aside and opted to compete in the Best Supporting Actress category, ensuring Colman had a better chance to contend for the Best Actress accolade. Olivia Colman expressed her profound appreciation for her co-stars, describing their decision as an extraordinary act of friendship that went beyond expectations. She referred to Weisz and Stone as incredible and lovely individuals, highlighting their unwavering support throughout their shared experiences.
“So they said they wanted to go into supporting to force me to do the other one. That is friends above and beyond, that is amazing. They are ­incredible, lovely people.”



Since her Oscar triumph, Olivia Colman’s career has continued to flourish. She went on to portray Queen Elizabeth II in the hit series The Crown and has now graced the screen in the psychological drama film The Lost Daughter, where she plays Leda Caruso, a professor of Italian literature grappling with the challenges of motherhood on a Greek island vacation.
