A commercially successful blockbuster or a critically acclaimed work of art in the film industry needs just as talented actors and actresses as it needs filmmakers, and the name of director Quentin Tarantino is enough to guarantee that a film project will satisfy at least one of the aforementioned conditions needed from a movie if not both of them.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that every major star in Hollywood and from around the globe wants to collaborate with the director on one of his projects. But like many from the industry, the filmmaker tries his best to work with the talent he seems fitting for one of the roles in his films, which was why on two separate occasions, Tarantino went to Jennifer Lawrence with an offer to be part of his then-upcoming films, and surprisingly, the actress declined the offer.

No matter how you look at it, the film industry is made up of numerous talented artists that shape a cinematic experience through their unique vision and are also revered for it. Therefore, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has a reputation among the audience for being a man that brings stories to life in such a unique way that people are drawn to his films. And while the entire industry wants to work with a visionary like him, actress Jennifer Lawrence might not feel the same, especially since she rejected the director to be a part of his Oscar-nominated film Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.

In a past interview, the Pulp Fiction director opened up about how he wanted The Hunger Games star to be part of his 2015 film The Hateful Eight, but due to her working on other projects that would later shape her career, he accepted her refusal for his project. Then again, in 2019, Tarantino approached Lawrence once more with the film that would go on to be nominated for 10 Academy Awards, but yet again, she had to refuse the director’s offer. In a past interview, Tarantino talked about her refusal, saying:
“Early on, in the pre-production of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, I flirted around with the idea of… Jennifer Lawrence playing Squeaky, She came down to the house to read the script, ’cause I wasn’t letting it out,’” he went on. “So, she came down to the house and I gave her the script and said, ‘Go in my living room or go outside by the pool and read it.’ She read it, and afterward, we talked about it a little bit. She was interested in doing it, but something didn’t work out,”
While he may have not revealed the reason why she declined the offer in the end, we can be sure she may have had some kind of regret not being part of such an iconic film afterwards.
