Keeping on reminding fans about the slap-gate incident continually isn’t helping salvage the situation for the two.

It’s been 2 years since Will Smith’s biblical smack to Chris Rock at the Oscars, resulting in his career taking a nose dive. But while the Oscar winner’s acting career has taken a backseat in the past couple of years, his personal life, especially his bond with estranged wife Jada Pinkett Smith keeps on making headlines.

Unsurprisingly, the jolliest time of the year has also brought another odd yet expected update on the duo’s bond, which further adds to the weirdness of their relationship. Per Jada Pinkett Smith, the controversial slap that plummeted the Men in Black Star’s career helped save their marriage.

Jada Pinkett Smith Credits Will Smith’s Infamous Slap for Saving Their Bond

These statements from the Madagascar Star come not long after the revelation that Pinkett and Will Smith haven’t been romantically inclined for the past 6 years. Per Daily Mail, Jada Pinkett Smith explained that her estranged partner’s slap to Chris Rock brought a fresh outlook on their marriage, stating “It took that slap for me to see I will never leave him”.

“After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him. Who knows where our relationship would be if that hadn’t happened?”
Keeping in mind the two publically addressed they haven’t been together for years, her recent statements of the slap being the savior of their marriage have added to the weirdness of the situation.

Will Smith Confirms I Am Legend 2 in an Attempt to Revamp His Career

Although per Jada Pinkett Smith, the infamous slap has been beneficial for the duo’s marriage, even though they’re living separate lives for years, this certainly hasn’t been the case for Will Smith’s career. Once one of the biggest names in Hollywood, Smith has been pretty vocal about his regrets about the incident and even took to his YouTube channel to apologize to Chris Rock, explaining that he is deeply human. But to revamp his career, the actor revealed that he is returning to the big screens with the sequel to his huge hit I Am Legend, stating he is in talks with Michael B. Jordan.

Via ScreenDaily, he said,
”I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow. The script just came in… I’m probably giving away too much information…We’re going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived,” said Smith. ”I can’t tell you any more but Michael B. Jordan is in and we’re doing it.”
